Take your tastebuds on an exotic trip with this authentic Asian beef dish.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup mirin
- 1/4 cup caster sugar
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 teaspoons finely grated ginger
- 1 garlic clove, thinly sliced
- 800g beef rump steak
- 1 tablespoon Alfa One rice bran oil
- Cooked SunRice Japanese Style Sushi Rice, to serve
- Thinly sliced green onion, to serve
Method
- Step 1Place soy sauce, mirin, sugar, honey, sesame oil, ginger and garlic in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to the boil. Reduce heat to low. Simmer for 5 to 10 minutes. Remove from heat. Cool to room temperature.
- Step 2Pour soy sauce mixture into a large, shallow ceramic dish. Add steak. Turn to coat. Cover. Refrigerate for 3 hours.
- Step 3Drain beef, reserving marinade. Heat rice bran oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Cook steak for 3 to 4 minutes each side (for medium) or until cooked to your liking. Transfer steak to a plate. Cover loosely with foil. Set aside for 5 minutes to rest. Add reserved marinade to pan. Bring to the boil. Reduce heat to low. Simmer, uncovered, for 2 to 3 minutes or until reduced slightly.
- Step 4Thinly slice steak. Serve with rice, green onion and drizzled with sauce.
