Create this classic Chinese dish of chicken drumsticks marinated in honey, soy and ginger. Serve with rice and Asian greens or part of a banquet.
Ingredients
- 8 (about 1.2kg) chicken drumsticks
- 1/4 cup (60ml) honey
- 1/4 cup (60ml) dark soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon finely grated ginger
- 2 teaspoons sesame seeds
- Stir-fried Asian greens, to serve
- Steamed jasmine rice, to serve
Method
- Step 1Use a small sharp knife to cut 2 slashes, about 3 cm long and 1cm deep, in the thickest part of each chicken drumstick.
- Step 2Combine the honey, soy sauce, ginger and sesame seeds in a large glass or ceramic bowl. Add the chicken and toss to coat in sauce. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the fridge for 1 hour to marinate.
- Step 3Preheat your oven to 200C. Line an oven tray with baking paper. Drain the drumsticks from marinade and arrange the chicken over the lined tray. Bake the drumsticks in the preheated oven, turning occasionally, for about 30 minutes or until the drumsticks are golden brown and cooked through.
- Step 4Divide chicken among serving plates. Serve with stir-fried Asian greens and steamed rice, if desired.
