Author Notes: Vodka spiked with apricots, both dried and in the form of preserves, makes for a festive quaff. The recipe makes about 1¼ quarts (about 39 ounces) so you’ll need 1 or 2 airtight glass or thick acrylic bottles or pitchers (with lids). Allow at least two days for the flavors to infuse, then drink up!
cup apricot jam or preserves (apricot lekvar)
pound dried, pitted apricots
- Combine the apricot preserves and water in a medium saucepan and stir well to combine. Set over medium heat and cook until the mixture begins to bubble at the edges.
- Pour the vodka into 1 or more airtight containers (big enough to hold 39 ounces in total) with lids. Add the apricot mixture, and stir well. Add the dried apricots, cover, and refrigerate for at least 2 days.
- If you prefer a pristinely clear liquid, strain in a fine-mesh sieve lined with a piece of cheesecloth before serving.
