Fill your home with the spice of this winter Yuletide side.
Ingredients
- Melted butter, to grease
- 750g brussels sprouts
- 40g butter
- 40g (1/4 cup) plain flour
- 600ml ctn milk
- Ground white pepper
- 65g (3/4 cup) coarsely grated gouda cheese
- 70g (1 cup) fresh breadcrumbs (made from day-old bread)
Method
- Step 1Preheat oven to 180ºC. Brush a 2L (8-cup) capacity baking dish with melted butter.
- Step 2Cook brussels sprouts in a saucepan of boiling water for 4 minutes or until tender crisp. Transfer to prepared dish.
- Step 3Melt butter in a saucepan over medium-high heat until foaming. Add flour. Cook, stirring, for 1-2 minutes or until mixture bubbles. Remove from heat. Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth. Boil over medium-high heat, stirring, for 3 minutes or until sauce thickens. Season with white pepper.
- Step 4Pour sauce over brussels sprouts. Sprinkle over gouda and breadcrumbs. Bake for 30-40 minutes or until golden.
